This is a great reminder to ALL adults, especially parents, just how important of a role they play in helping children develop healthy habits and psychological safety.
“The truth is, that fearfulness governs one’s life, and it leads one to form “protective strategies” to reduce threats that try to affect one’s mental well-being, sometimes these “strategies” become the real threat to one’s mental health.” Often times children, just like adults, tend to do this unconsciously as they adapt to their environments. This alone has the capacity to prevent children from living up to their full potential and showing up as their authentic selves.
If you take anything from this, please remember these three things.
1. Provide a safe space for your child where they feel listened to without judgement. (listen to understand)
2. Focus on being present and aware of your own emotions, especially when a situation triggers a negative emotion.
3. Also try thinking about your response to these situations for at least a few seconds, rather than responding in the moment when you are emotionally charged. #mentalhealth #psychologicalsafety #parentingtips #adulting
