This is a great reminder to ALL adults, especially parents, just how important of a role they play in helping children develop healthy habits and psychological safety.

“The truth is, that fearfulness governs one’s life, and it leads one to form “protective strategies” to reduce threats that try to affect one’s mental well-being, sometimes these “strategies” become the real threat to one’s mental health.” Often times children, just like adults, tend to do this unconsciously as they adapt to their environments. This alone has the capacity to prevent children from living up to their full potential and showing up as their authentic selves.

If you take anything from this, please remember these three things.

1. Provide a safe space for your child where they feel listened to without judgement. (listen to understand)

2. Focus on being present and aware of your own emotions, especially when a situation triggers a negative emotion.

3. Also try thinking about your response to these situations for at least a few seconds, rather than responding in the moment when you are emotionally charged. #mentalhealth #psychologicalsafety #parentingtips #adulting

Improving Your Emotional Intelligence! (Text; 5/10/23)

Hello everyone, in this post, I want to share with you some tips on how to improve your emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions and those of others. It can help you communicate better, build stronger relationships, and cope with stress.
Here are some ways to practice emotional intelligence:

  • Be aware of your emotions. Pay attention to how you feel in different situations and what triggers them. Try to label your emotions accurately and avoid judging them as good or bad.
  • Express your emotions appropriately. Find healthy ways to express your feelings, such as talking to someone you trust, writing in a journal, or doing something creative. Avoid bottling up or suppressing your emotions, as this can lead to resentment and/or frustration.
  • Empathize with others. Try to see things from other people’s perspectives and understand their feelings. Listen actively and show an interest in what they have to say. Don’t interrupt or criticize them, but offer support and feedback when needed.
  • Manage your emotions. Learn how to regulate your emotions and respond calmly and rationally to challenging situations. Use positive coping strategies, such as breathing exercises, meditation, or relaxation techniques. Avoid negative coping strategies, such as alcohol, drugs, or violence.
